MEG's objective is to assist our members in opposing inappropriate development and work towards reform of Victoria's unbalanced urban planning regime.
Since the introduction of "Melbourne 2030" in 2002 we have had planning documents from successive State Governments. We had "Melbourne 2030" in 2002,
"Melbourne at 5 Million" in 2008 with an update in 2009. Then came "Plan Melbourne" in 2014. The inclusion of 'zones' in this document provided some
protection of existing neighbourhood character. In Stonnington we have 37.5% of the municipality in the prized Neighbourhood Residential Zone...a
very small percentage. It virtually opens the rest of Stonnington to the ravages of almost uncontrolled development. With a new State Government, in
2015 we were asked to comment on a new planning document, "Plan Melbourne Refresh." As we write this in 2016 we hear rumours that State Government is
planning more changes to allow even more development in the established areas.
